Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act), the punishment for consuming a small quantity of a drug is imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to Rs. 10,000, or both. The punishment for consuming a commercial quantity of a drug is imprisonment for 10 to 20 years and a fine of Rs. 1-2 lakhs.

It is important to note that the NDPS Act is very strict, and drug offenses are considered cognizable and non-bailable. This means that the police can arrest and detain someone for a drug offense without a warrant, and the person may not be able to get bail.
