Medication and psychotherapy are seen to be the most effective for people who are being treated for depression. Your psychiatrist is likely to give you some form of medication that may or may not work for someone else. There are also cases where one may need several combinations of medication for it to click. This requires you to be patient because some medicines need several weeks or longer to take their full effect in the body.
Never abruptly stop taking the medication as there is an element of relapse that can take place. Stopping treatment abruptly or missing several doses can cause withdrawal-like symptoms, and quitting suddenly may cause a sudden worsening of depression. Work with your doctor to gradually and safely decrease your dose.
