Bengaluru, India's technology and innovation hub, has emerged as the city with the highest suicide rate among all major metropolitan areas in the country, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for 2024. Despite ranking second behind Delhi in absolute numbers — recording 2,403 suicides — Bengaluru's suicide rate of 28.3 per lakh population significantly outpaces Delhi's rate of 17.8, placing it at the top among metros when adjusted for population size.
Mental health professionals in the city point to a confluence of pressures unique to Bengaluru's fast-paced urban environment: economic uncertainty, high-performance work cultures, escalating living costs, social isolation, and relationship instability. Senior psychologist Neha Cadabam of Cadabam's Hospital highlights a particularly concerning pattern — a widening gap between how individuals present themselves publicly and what they experience emotionally in private.
At Cadabam's, we believe early intervention, counselling, and compassionate care can change — and save — lives. If you or someone you know has been silently struggling, don't wait for things to worsen. Help is available.
