When hooked to drugs or alcohol, it is not always easy to come out of it. On the other hand, consequences of addiction are so far reaching that there are seldom many alternatives left to the victim. It’s a straight drugs or no-drugs situation! There is absolutely no middle path available.
Strong resolve
The resolve to quit, however, has to be as strong as the grounds for doing it. Any dilly dallying halfway through the de-addiction path can easily fast-backward to the old ways. Having a strong ground for quitting makes it much easier to be free from addiction. In plain words, there has to be some solid reasons to nullify your addictive behaviour.
Mental toughness
Write in bold letters the reasons for quitting addiction. Also, writing down the fall out of not doing so will help. It’s undoubtedly going to be mentally very tough. But it is nonetheless very essential to stick to a de-addiction schedule. Make clear and firm your resolve in bold red letters: YES I AM GOING TO STOP THIS HABIT FOR EVER.
Reasons for quitting
No need to go public with your quitting plans it if helps in implementing it. For, at the end of it all it is your decision to quit and the credit for it also must go to you! You make up your mind to quit and quit there and then only. The reasons for quitting could be:
Freedom from addiction
These are just some of the examples of how your strong resolve for quitting can help you get the better of your addiction and lead you to freedom from drugs and alcohol abuse. The stronger are the reasons for quitting the better. The reasons many vary from individual to individual but the goal has to be clear and straight: Freedom from Addiction!
Set time-schedule
Now, having decided on the grounds to quit addiction it is important to set a deadline for doing so. No de-addiction exercise can go on forever. There is also no need to either rush through the de-addiction process or prolong it.
Mental preparation
Longer the process of de-addiction, there are more chances of your resolve to quit being weakened. So, don’t take any chances and finish your mission to quit as soon as possible, possibility within a month’s time at the maximum. Set yourself a time schedule of a couple of weeks to make mental and physical preparation for quitting your habit.
Memorable occasion
In order to make it a memorable and important occasion in your life, choose a day you feel important to say goodbye to your addiction. It could be your son’s birthday, or a day of your marriage anniversary or mother’s day.
Build hype
Building a little bit of hype and publicity among close family members leading to your de-addiction day will not be uncalled for. This will work as your motivation and ensure that you remain firm in your commitment to quit drugs and alcohol addiction.
