If you are pregnant or planning to conceive it is extremely vital to not use drugs use during pregnancy. This applies not just for your life but also for health of your child.   • Premature birth i.e. birth that occurs before completion of 37 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Low birth weight i.e. weight of the baby weighing less than 5 pounds, 8 ounces.
  • Reduced head circumference i.e. head size that are smaller than normal.
  • Heart defects.
  • Birth defects.
  • Deformed limbs
  • Dental malformations
  • Impaired vision
  • Infections caused due to shared needles can cause Hepatitis C, AIDS, HIV and Zika. This ends up causing birth defects in the baby as well as affecting mothers.
  • Neonatal abstinence syndrome is a health condition that the baby suffers from causing drug addiction as well as withdrawal effects of the drugs to the baby.
  • Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
  • Foetal-Alcohol Syndrome or Foetal Alcohol Effect (FAE)
  • Difficulties with movement, speech and social skills
  • Learning disabilities.
  • Seizures
  • Intellectual disabilities.
  • Behavioural problems.
