The enormity of the problem is such that the Government cannot address itself fully to alleviate the sufferings of the victims and their families and it is for NGO'S to come forward to help the society at large and the families and the individual in particular.

 Compounding the problem is the fast changing social and family structure which necessities an alternate living system for the Chronic Mentally ill, in a "Home Away from Home". Both as a process of psycho-social rehabilitation and a compelling family necessity.
Cadabam'S Home is serving this need, and today it happens to be one of the leading and largest Residential Rehabilitation Centres in the country in the NGO'S sector, having more than 150 residents coming from different parts of the country with a few NRI's as well and has a capacity to serve 200 persons.

 Considering the vastness of the problem, limitations of the Government, a greater involvement by NGO'S is most needed, and Cadabam's is one such effort.
Cadabam'S under its umbrella takes for providing psycho social care persons with different types of mental disorders, ranging from Schizophrenia, "MDP" (Manic Depressive Psychosis) or "OCD" (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) to Behavioural Disorders and Mental Retardation.
Some of the disorders by their very vary nature need a very long term therapeutic care and Rehabilitation. There is always a high risk of relapsability, needing family education to handle critical situations when the patient is back home. The uniqueness of Cadabam's lies in taking the family into full confidence and seeking their support in the Rehabilitation Programme. |
