What is a Panic Attack?

Panic Attack?

What is a Panic Attack?

A woman named Bella in her mid 30’s was once rushed to the emergency room of a nearby hospital. She was profusely sweating and she felt like her heart was racing at one instance, such that she was unable to take a breath. She and her husband were certain that, she had a heartache. But, after a while, the emergency room doctors informed that her heart was absolutely fine and what she had met with was a Panic attack.

Her condition was getting worse slowly day by day with frequent panic attacks. She had the same feeling as that of before, the each time she encountered with a panic attack. It seemed like she had a heart attack.

Many times, most of the people confuse a panic attack with a heart attack. There is a much similarity between the symptoms of a panic attack and a heart attack. This is because a person faces breathlessness as their heart pounds during a panic attack. Your heart seems to beat at a faster rate and you experiences a feeling of dying.

Thus, experiencing a thumping heart, or a feeling of dying, or even an overwhelming feeling of distress and dread, are all that seems to be a Panic attack.

“A Panic attack is a phase of severe, often temporarily defusing sense of extreme psychological distress or fear or, typically of an abrupt onset.”

Though it is often a purely horrifying feeling to the victims, anxiety attacks are literally a rising body response generally known as the psychological response or the fight-or-flight response.

Panic Attacks happen anywhere and at any time!

Did you know that panic attacks can occur accidentally? Yes, these attacks happen randomly once a person exposes to a number of events or episodes that may trigger it. They increase with a rapid speed and reach its peak and vanish without a medical guidance.

Panic attacks usually last for about 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the state of the event occurring in a person. And most importantly, these occur anytime, anywhere without a person’s notice. For this reason, even Bella says, these attacks are extremely frightening as there is no true danger provoking them, but these events can occur at anywhere, anytime – including while shopping, walking down the street or while dining out or even while sleeping.
A panic attack might make you feel like you are about to die or collapse, but in real, panic attacks are harmless. In rare cases, a person is required to acquire medical or psychological help to sway out the underlying cause.
