You can finally emerge as a winner and get back on the road to recovery and use this experience to strengthen your commitment and build a plan against relapses.

Don’t attempt any life saving device, in order to go and try it alone. Even if you choose to go to a rehab it is advisable to rely on self-help programs, avail of therapy sessions, or take self-directed treatment approach. For all this   support of your immediate and external environment   is essential. Recovering from drug addiction is much easier when you have people you can lean on. This could take shape of encouragement, comfort and guidance from them to you. Support can also come in the form of

  • family members,
  • close friends
  • therapists
  • counsellors,
  • other recovering addicts,
  • health care providers,
  • people from your own faith or community.

Addiction is common in people with mental health problems. But though substance abuse and mental health disorders like depression and anxiety are closely linked, one does not directly cause the other. As far as India goes, you’ll definitely find something on these programme on the internet or government  listed departments focussing on these issues.   • don’t argue with a person when they are impaired,
  • don’t ever try to drink with a problem drinker

  • Tell family, freinds and co-workers that you plan to quit.
  • anticipate and plan for the challenges you’ll face while quitting,
  •  remove cigarettes and other tobacco products from your home, car, work
