Living With An Alcoholic

Alcohol Addiction

Here is a story of a Mrs. Mona who once approached a counselor for her husband who had drowned himself into alcohol addiction. She said- “My husband  drinks alcohol every day. Every evening he comes home from his work. Moreover, in the weekends he starts from the early afternoon. He continues to drink till he passes out or runs out of the larger. And his behavior when he drinks – he is very abusive and feels like just another person. We have much little or sometimes no social life together. I often keep worrying when we step out as to how much he would drink. I really feel ashamed of his behavior and alcohol has become my biggest enemy. .”

Mrs. Mona’s every morning would begin worrying how her husband would be today.  She was immensely in need of a help, and that is when she came reached out to our rehab counselor.

But have you ever thought as to what does it makes a person around an alcoholic feel so helpless? The lady was also in the same dilemma and when asked upon the reasons by the counselor, she laid off a number of critical signs of her husband like they were the effects of alcoholism. The signs were-

  • His Unpredictable Behavior

An alcoholic usually has an unpredictable behavior. This behavior creates a chaos in his family as well as in his social life. He argues and abuses other people mentally and physically as well. In these cases, it is hard to predict the alcoholic’s behavior.

  • His Deception and Lies

Deception is one of the real features of alcohol addicts. Most of them constantly lie about extreme elements that may effect their relationships.

  • Domestic Violent behavior

This is a common problem in cases of alcohol addicts causing arguments to take a high pitch in the relationships. A person loses his self-control and behaves in an aggressive manner with his partner.

  • They often feel guilty

An alcoholic often repents for what went on the previous day when they had drunk if he might be had misbehaved. They apologize for hurting others.

Take the step towards recovery for your close one from alcohol addiction

It is obvious that it is very hard for the people around a drinker to know that they cannot help themselves and generally family will be the most affected. Everyone will be happy when things go good and when the person has a control over his drinks. But when his drinks take over him, disorder and complications rule!

It is painful and a helpless situation to watch your closed one destroying and hurting himself in the urge of drinking. Do you know someone who may be suffering for alcohol addiction or the family struggling because of addiction of a family member? Then all you need to do first is to speak up with a rehab counselor or a psychiatrist. Fight stigma & get help. Don’t think much, It’s the time to act now!
