DETOXIFICATION
Literally means getting rid of the toxins. Detoxification in alcohol dependent persons is the process by which the body of the person is brought back to normal state of wellbeing from the state of alcohol dependence. Hence detoxification is the beginning of treatment for alcohol dependence which needs to follow by other treatments to deal with underlying addiction.

Detoxification for persons addicted to other drugs also mean the same only differing in the management and presentation.

Detoxification may or may not be necessary depending upon an individual’s age, medical status and duration of alcohol intake.

At ANUNITHA detoxification is carried out in an independent wing of the centre under the supervision of team of psychiatrist, physician and counsellor.
REHABILITATION

Occupational & vocational therapy
Occupational therapy at Cadabam'S aims to address both the areas of occupational performance component and areas.

Employment /work serve as a vehicle for people with mental illness to move forward in the process of recovery. Work in regular community settings /otherwise helps to reduce social

isolation, boredom and improve self confidence.

Employment alongside others who do not have disabilities is the best way for true integration but it has its own challenges and limitations. Cadabam’S has a unique NEERAJA where the rehabilitated residents are provided opportunity to work and explore the possibility of them independently getting employed in other organizations.
Regular AA /NA Meetings
Alcoholics anonymous are a worldwide fellowship of men and women who share a desire to stop drinking alcohol. At ANUNITHA while 12 step programme of AA is followed here other inmates who have had trouble due to alcoholism and now maintaining sobriety are encouraged to share their views. The counsellor will guide through the sessions and will also encourage open discussion while he steering the meeting.

Narcotic anonymous (NA) is also in the similar lines of AA but here it is the other drugs to which the person is dependent. It is generally observed that more than one drug dependence is found while one causing havoc in life like AA meeting NA meetings are also guided by counsellor at ANUNITHA.
Family Intervention

Involvement of family actively is a fundamental ingredient in the management of mental disorders. At Cadabam’S Anunitha family sessions are aimed at achieving,

  1. Resolution or at least understanding the area of conflict between the person with the illness and family.
  2. Have better and more understanding of the problem, treatment and the limitations of all the measures employed
  3. Help and identify the area of communication creating conflict or problem and improve communication patterns within the family
  4. Help enhance problem solving and coping strategies and skills.
Narcoanalysis & Narco therapy

In this mode of intervention decided exclusively by treating psychiatrist the resident /patient receives a drug under close supervision. Under the influence of medication the person

  1. Is in a state of relaxation
  2. Has lowered level of inhibitions.
  3. The ability to speak is fostered.
  4. The establishment of transference is expedited.
  5. Is more co-operative and suggestible.

Narco therapy due to benefits mentioned above is utilized depending upon the condition of the patient and expected outcome from the therapy
